Safety Guidelines
Safety obligations in the following chapters
The next chapters contain security obligations represented by the symbols below.
INFORMATION
CAUTION
DANGER
These obligations must be strictly followed for any use or interventions on the machine.
Important informations
For any necessary curative or preventive maintenance operations during the warranty period of the PACKMAT, PACKMAT Equipment reserves the right to utilise a technician of its own choice.
For any necessary curative maintenance operations after the warranty period, the following workers can be utilised:
- CUSTOMER maintenance technicians
- Sub-contractors hired by the CUSTOMER
- PACKMAT Equipment technicians (the intervention must be done under punctual contract of periodic maintenance contract).
In any case, the use of parts other that the original ones will cancel the constructor warranty
Operational safety obligations
- The PACKMAT machine is built following basic security obligations.
- Depending on the version. the PACKMAT is sized to pack material in open containers of 6.40 m (252 inches) of length, 2.40 m of width (95 inches) and 2.65m high (104 inches).
- Any use of the PACKMAT in containers different than the indicated dimensions could damage the container and compromise the operator’s safety.
- Ex : if the container is higher, there is a collision risk between the arm and the container. If the container is shorter, there is a collision risk between the doors and the roller, that could result with the roller falling out of the container (if length shorter than 5.5 m).
- The PACKMAT is not designed to crush and pack under pressure reservoirs (air, water, oil, etc.), flammable products nor explosive products.
- Prior any displacement operation, it is necessary to make sure the machine cannot directly or indirectly make contact with a person.
- No unfolding or packing operation must be performed when the machine in on the ground (tilt over risk).
- Any devices used for the PK-311 transportation, besides delivery on flat bed, must be equipped with an hydraulic arm equipped with front and rear locking mechanism.
- See paragraph «Driving of the roller packer mounted on chassis».
Before starting the machine
Before climbing into the driving cabin, visually inspect that there is no person of interfering objects in the operation zone (on machine or less than 2 meters).
Operation
Maximum authorized canting with roller mounted on chassis : 10 %
Maximum authorized slope with roller mounted on chassis : 10 %
Maximum authorized canting with roller raised : 3 %
Maximum authorized slope with roller raised : 3 %
During displacements from a container to another, the roller must always be lowered and rested on its chassis.
It is strictly forbidden to deploy the roller arm with a wind speed above 40 mph, if the arm assembly is not locked on the transport device.
It is possible to operate the PK-608 with a maximum wind of 138 Km/h (86 mph) if and only if the packer is efficiently locked on a transport device as shown in chapter 18.
When operating under a power line, the safe distances between the PACKMAT structure and the power line are the following:

Information about the PACKMAT noise emissions
The PACKMAT is built following these noise recommendations: Leq (dBA) < 85
Note: The continuous acoustic pressure level A, is measured while the machine is in operation.
Information about the PACKMAT vibration emissions
The human body vibration parameter in under 2.5m/s²
Note : The human body vibration parameter cannot be used to determine the real vibration solicitations while operating the PACKMAT. These solicitations depend on the operation conditions (site condition, operation mode, type of material, etc.) and for these reasons, must be measured on the job site. The arms and hands vibration indications are mandatory, even if the values indicate no risks, like the actual case.
Information about workers in right to operate the PACKMAT
PACKMAT Equipment ensures to train the workers that will operate their machines. A training certificate is then delivered by PACKMAT Equipment to the trainees that have successfully passed their training.
It is to the superintendent that makes use of the material, the responsibility to deliver an authorization to operate the PACKMAT machines to anyone.
A – Aptitude exam done by a qualified doctor.
B – Training certificate delivered by PACKMAT Equipment.
C – Operation site rules and regulations.
Informations on visual periodic inspections
The superintendent must be in charge of inpecting the machines, installation and working ambiance for any deteriorations that may cause a health and safety risk. It is also his responsibility to eliminate that safety risk as soon as possible.
The main purpose of periodic maintenances is to make sure the material remains adequate for operation. Immediate interventions must be done in case of failure.
